The author of Furious Seasons describes his last depressive episode and his struggle to get through it without medication. He makes some very valid points about the problems involved in taking medication and the issues which would not be resolved by taking medication.
He states,
"Let's say pill X worked like magic right out of the chute. I'd be undepressed but still not able to get full-time work. Nothing about my life would be resolved. Just how I felt about it. That's an empty game."
So many people fail to take into account situational factors influencing their depression that pills will not resolve. He discusses some of the other factors exacerbating his depression (lack of being in a relationship, career difficulties, financial difficulties and lack of adequate health care) while at the same time being aware that these bouts come and, eventually, go.
His eloquence and wisdom are worth a read. See the full article at, "What I Did When I Got Depressed".
