This is the best analysis of what's going on I've EVER seen.

I've had my brush with homelessness, ran a business unprudently and lost it all. Only people I've "burned" are the IRS and some credit cards, I paid off the state of California for individual and business taxes, utilities, found a good renter to take over my apartment lease, etc.

I ended up living on an alcoholic's couch and for a period of about 4 months, panhandling.

I'm a helper and watchman, chore-doer and so on, on a large-ish place and it's kind of a marginal way to live but I'm valued here and not about to get evicted well, ever. Training to be an EMT and living VERY frugally, it's been a kind of fun adventure really.

The thing is, it's really made me want to "get inside the heads" of my fellow street bums, and the easily identifiable homeless and wired very differently. I think there are a lot of us who, as you say, end up in the shelter or something, and find a way to get out and don't look back. The chronic homeless are a different type, that can only be described as feral. They certainly need help, but I agree with you, not the kind they're being given now.

Hi Alex,

Feral, hmmm? Thats an interesting word. I think I like it. Thanks for suggesting it. And thank you for the feedback. Its nice to know someone else sees what I see.

I wish you all the best with your EMT training.

Peace,

Kellen
