I was recently reading "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up", by Marie Kondo. In order to clear your home of clutter, she advises you to hold every item in your hand and ask, does this bring me joy? I really love this idea. However, I am expanding it to everything in my life, from the smallest thing to the largest. Does this job give me joy? Does this shirt I'm wearing give me joy? Does this relationship give me joy? Does the city I live in give me joy? Does this meal I'm eating give me joy? Does my home give me joy? It's a wonderful way of checking yourself so you don't end up in a rut, just going along with the current of life and letting it carry you wherever it will. It prevents you from getting stuck and apathetic. Making active choices about what gives you joy and getting rid of what doesn't is an important part of creating a life which fulfills you.
